Greenville, SC Projects & Developments
Due to a large variety of high-tech and manufacturing industries, Greenville County is the manufacturing center of South Carolina and business center of the Upstate.
More than fifty years ago Greenville embarked on the strategy to recruit European textile machinery firms to benefit from foreign investment. Since then, low wages, favorable tax benefits, and a skilled and highly motivated workforce, have attracted many foreign companies to invest heavily in the area. Therefore, Greenville County has seen an exceptional growth in business, industries, and population during the last twenty years.
Today more than 250 international companies from 23 different countries have opened facilities in the region and more than 100 foreign corporations have chosen the area as their North American headquarters. Greenville is now home to world-class companies and major Fortune 500 firms with corporate or divisional operations such as Lockheed, GE, Proctor & Gamble, Hitachi, Michelin, Ahold Information Services, BMW and many more.
With its rapidly expanding economy, the area has the largest labor force in South Carolina. The Greenville area is now home to an estimated 350,000 people and is still growing. This growth has sparked a huge variety of new housing and community developments in recent years..
In addition, there are various exciting new plans for multiple development areas in the near future.
First and foremost there will be the ICAR / International Center for Automotive Research with the Millenium Campus. Clemson University- International Center for Automotive Research/Clemson-ICAR and SAE/Society of Automotive Engineers will become a campus partner together with corporate partners including BMW, Michelin, IBM and Microsoft. The first facility on the site, BMW's Information Technology Research Center, and Clemson University's Carroll A. Campbell Jr. Graduate Engineering Center are the focus of CU-ICARÕs Technology Neighborhood.
Near ICAR and across Interstate I-85, the Verdae development will be a bustling new community of neighborhoods, shops, and offices that could be home to 10,000 and a workplace for 15,000 people.
New high rise buildings and river front developments in downtown Greenville will change and shape the future skyline. A new stadium, new malls and community developments will add new stores, entertainment and life style possibilities.
